Staff recommends that the Committee vote to recommend that the property be processed for historic landmark designation.

 

4. Study List

 

 

   A.  1501 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC.

The owner has requested that the property be placed on the Commission's Study List.  Staff recommends that the property be added to the Study List.

 

B. Caldwell Berry Farm, 7231 McIllwaine Road, Huntersville, NC.

 

 

 

The owner has requested that the property be placed on the Commission's Study List. Staff recommends that the property be added to the Study List.

 

C. Derita School Gymnasium, 6115 Rumple Road, Charlotte, NC.

 

 

Staff has identified the Derita School Gymnasium as a potentially significant historic property and recommends that the property be added to the Commission's Study List. CMS owns the building and supports the possible designation of the property.  Staff recommends that the property be added to the Study List.

 

D.  Star Saint Matthews Lodge 566, 124 Morris, Matthews, NC.

 

 

The owner has requested that the property be placed on the Commission's Study List. Staff recommends that the property be added to the Study List.

 

E.  Washington Heights House, 2215 Sanders Avenue, Charlotte, NC.

 

Staff has identified 2215 Sanders Avenue as a potentially significant historic property and recommends that the property be added to the Commission's Study List. Staff recommends that the property be added to the Study List.

 

F.  Belmont Shotgun House, 1405 Kennan Street, Charlotte, NC.

 

 

Staff has identified this Belmont Shotgun House, located at 1405 Kennan Street, as a potentially significant historic property and recommends that the property be added to the Commission's Study List. Staff recommends that the property be added to the Study List.

 

G.  Prosperity Church Cemetery, 5533 Prosperity Church Road, Charlotte, NC.

 

  

 

The cemetery associated with the property contains early 19th century grave stones, and contains graves of the Bingham family.  The Bingham family is associated with 18th and 19th century Mecklenburg County stone carvers.  An application was submitted for the Study List for the Prosperity Church property in Summer 2013.   At its September 2013 meeting, the HLC tabled consideration of Study List placement until this meeting of the Survey Committee.  A representative of the church has contacted the Landmarks Commission and has expressed their opposition to the prospect of historic designation.

 

H.  2143 Sherwood Avenue, Charlotte, NC

 

 

The owner has requested that the property be placed on the Commission's Study List.  Staff recommends that the property be added to the Study List.

5.  Consideration Of Funding of Survey and Research Report

     A.  Arthur Smith Studios, 5457 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC.

Identified in the Commission's latest Survey of East Charlotte, and added to the Commission's Study List in October 2013, staff is recommending that the Survey Committee recommend to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission that it consider funding a Survey and Research Report for the property.   Staff recommends that the Commission fund a survey and research report for the property when funds become available.

      B.  Pineville Mill Managers Houses, 304 and 402 Dover Street, Pineville, NC.

  

Identified by the HLC, staff is recommending that the Survey Committee recommend to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission that it consider funding a Survey and Research Report for the Pineville Mill Managers Houses, located at 304 and 402 Dover Street in Pineville.   Staff recommends that the Commission fund a survey and research report for the property when funds become available.
